Greggs reports GBP 86.5 m operating profit for the first half of the year, with a pre-tax profit of GBP 76 million. By comparison, in the similar period of 2025, its operating profit was GBP 70.4 million, and the corresponding pre-tax profit was GBP 63.5 million.

Total sales for the 26 weeks up to June 27, 2026 amounted to GBP 1.1 billion (H1 2025: GBP 1.027 billion). Like-for-like sales in company-managed shops grew by 2.1%, with franchise shop LFL ‘system sales’ increasing by 1.3%. New shop openings and increased distribution in grocery retailing also contributed to higher sales.

The new shops performed well and the ‘Bake-at-Home’ offer further expanded in the grocery sector. Lower-than-anticipated levels of cost inflation and strong cost control, including during periods of hot weather, also supported the strong performance, the Chief Executive’s report highlights.

In the second half of the year, Greggs expects a step-up in operating costs as its new Derby site goes live.

Roisin Currie CBE, Chief Executive, commented on the H1 results: “Greggs continued to outperform the market and has delivered an improved sales performance and strong cost control through the first half of 2026, resulting in profitable growth.

We remain focused on opening shops in more catchments and introducing convenient ways for customers to pick up Greggs favourites, while broadening and innovating our menu in line with changing tastes and trends. We are making great progress in building the supply chain infrastructure that will support the significant growth opportunities that lie ahead. The Board’s expectations for the full-year outcome are unchanged.”

Menu development

Greggs continues to broaden its menu, introducing new products such as the new Chicken Roll, which was launched in April and has been a “standout success”, the CEO highlights.

The company also strengthened its hot food and pizza offer with new specialties such as the Tandoori Chicken Pizza Slice.

Its salad range was also enhanced, with a mix of new and reformulated recipes. The range was relaunched in May, including the Chicken Caesar Salad and Prawn Layered Pasta Salad, adding protein and increased options. “We have enhanced our product labelling to make it easier for customers to access nutritional information, such as the amount of protein in products,” Currie underlines. The new Iced Matcha Lattes and Chicken Roll supported LFL sales growth.
