A court banned McDonald’s from claiming in its German promotion campaigns that it will be climate neutral from 2050. According to the judgment issued in June, McDonald’s must “refrain from advertising that it is committed to the goal of becoming climate-neutral worldwide in its restaurants and in its supply chain by 2050,” Agence France-Presse quotes the decision.

If it does not comply, McDonald’s could pay fine of up to EUR 250,000, according to the judgment, confirmed by the court to AFP.

The activist group Environmental Action Germany (DUH) accused the QSR of making a ‘grandiose pledge’ without a clear path to achieving its goal. The advertising messages were amended after the ruling.
