Grupo Bimbo is acquiring Joy Food International SARL, an industrial bakery based in Casablanca, Morocco, via its Spanish subsidiary, Bakery Iberian Investments SL. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
Joy Food International supplies the food retail and foodservice sectors with products including bread, buns, pizza bases, and tortillas.
Grupo Bimbo has been operating in Morocco since 2017, when it acquired Groupe Adghal. The latest move consolidates the group’s presence in North Africa. It complements its activities in Tunisia, where it acquired the confectionery manufacturer Moulin d’Or in April 2024, according to a press release. In Africa, the group has production facilities in Morocco, Tunisia, and South Africa.
Grupo Bimbo has a direct presence in 39 countries and partnerships in 52 more. The company operates 249 bakeries and over 1,500 distribution centers in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Outside of Africa, the group expanded its portfolio in 2024 through the acquisition of biscuit manufacturer La Zarcereña in Costa Rica and bread producer Trei Brutari in Romania. It also acquired a 30% stake in UNO, a packaged bread manufacturer in Turkey. Slovenian bakery Don Don, Romania’s Karamolegos Bakery and Spain’s Amaritta were also among the acquisition deals announced in 2024.
