Puratos and AMF Bakery Systems collaborated on developing a new pilot bakery plant that supports their work with commercial bakeries in North America. The facility, featuring last-generation technology that mirrors real-world manufacturing setups, is now open for projects at Puratos’ US Headquarters, near the company’s Innovation Center in Pennsauken – New Jersey.

The facility’s official opening event was held on June 9, 2025. Several high-profile guests attended the launch, including Eric Dell, President of the American Bakers Association (ABA); Nicole Roberts, Mayor of Pennsauken; members of the New Jersey Legislature; customers, journalists and executives from Puratos and AMF.

The hosts organized guided tours of the new facility, live demonstrations of advanced bakery automation, product tastings and interactive sessions showcasing the collaborative innovation process.

“As part of our mission to help our customers be successful, we identified the need for bakers to accelerate the innovation cycle to respond to evolving consumer trends,” said Andrew Brimacombe, President, Puratos USA. “However, we see that line time and baking skills can be a constraint on innovation and recipe optimization in many industrial bakery environments. This new pilot bakery brings together the deep skills of a bakery ingredients innovator with a bakery equipment leader to provide bakers with a way to develop, optimize, test, and scale products with speed and certainty, going from concept to commercialization in one visit. It will also support our customers as they seek to train their teams and build skills.”

AMFBakery Systems also shared a comment on the new project: “We are excited to announce the grand opening of the Puratos Pilot Bakery – Powered by AMF, an innovative facility at the Puratos U.S. Headquarters in Pennsauken, NJ! This venture has emerged from a dynamic collaboration between AMF Bakery Systems and Puratos, exemplifying a fast-track journey from concept to commercialization. It seamlessly integrates ingredient innovation, bakery automation, and real-time consumer insights, all within a single state-of-the-art location.

Designed for innovation driven by consumer insights, this facility provides commercial bakers with the unique opportunity to co-create, test, and refine new products swiftly and efficiently, thereby minimizing downtime while maximizing the potential for market success.”

Bakeries wanting to attend innovation workshops, technical training, ingredient/recipe optimization, and data-driven product development can work together with specialists at the pilot plant, AMF adds.

“We have a long history of strong partnerships aimed at advancing the bakery industry, including with equipment manufacturers,” also said Pierre Tossut, Global CEO, Puratos. “We are pleased to extend our partnership with AMF to develop this unique pilot bakery line in the US, allowing our customers to innovate faster. We will continue to develop our partnerships across the globe and look forward to extending further collaborations with equipment suppliers that move the industry forward.”
