Corby-based BakeAway, Jus-Rol manufacturer, issued a statement following the decision of the Competition Appeal Tribunal for the Jus-Rol brand to be divested. BakeAway expressed its disappointment that the action called by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) will be carried out.
The Competition Appeal Tribunal in the UK fully dismissed a legal challenge by Cérélia and upheld the Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA) decision to block Cérélia’s acquisition of Jus-Rol. The Tribunal dismissed all four grounds of Cérélia’s contest on the CMA’s decision. It confirmed that the CMA had gathered and carefully weighed a great deal of information and evidence for its assessment, and had not made any error of fact or law.
French pastry-mix maker Cérélia will have to divest the Jus-Rol business, which it acquired from General Mills, as the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said that the merger hinders the competition among the UK’s retailers and, potentially, the end-consumers who might experience increased prices.
