Upper Crust Bakery LP, a company based in Maryland, issued a voluntary product recall for three product ranges, citing ‘glass fragments found on top of the bread’. The recalled products were distributed to Pennsylvania, California, Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware and Ohio.

According to the Food and Drug Administration(FDA), the class II recall, initiated on April 12, is still ongoing and it affects the following frozen assortments: Ancient Grains Hoagie Roll (89 cases), Multigrain Sourdough (699 cases) and Whole Grain Multigrain (30 cases).

Moderate risk, Class II Recalls are issued on products that have a lower chance of causing major injuries or death, but where there is still the possibility of serious enough adverse events to have irreversible consequences.

In a press release shared with People, Upper Crust Bakery indicated this voluntary recall was initiated after an employee “discovered a small glass fragment on top of a piece of seeded bread.” The glass reportedly came from the sunflower seeds used. The bakery also stated they were confident the issue had been effectively resolved.
