Le Pain Quotidien closed nine UK bakeries, as it went into administration. Out of the nine London shops and one in Oxford, The St Pancras bakery remains open. The St Pancras site is owned by its sister company SPQ Holdings Limited, so it will not be impacted, City A.M. reports.

Following the insolvency, a staff of 250 people lost their jobs.

Managing director Annick Van Overstraeten told MailOnline that the company is considering potential partners in the UK for new franchises.

Le Pain Quotidien filed for a Chapter 11 bankruptcy in its US division in 2020 – closing all 98 of its US stores. Since then, a few new stores have reopened.

Le Pain Quotidien was founded by Alain Coumont, who opened the first store in 1990 in Brussels.
