Biscuit International announced the acquisition of Patisserie Casteleijn, effective from January 1, 2025. Casteleijn is an industrial bakery based in the Netherlands specializing in stroopwafels and syrup-filled biscuits.
The acquisition will add a new production site to Biscuit International’s operational footprint. Leon Taviansky, Biscuit International CEO, said: “The acquisition of Patisserie Casteleijn marks Biscuit International’s return to consolidation in the European private label biscuit and bread substitute market.”
Luc Van Gorp, Biscuit International Northern Europe CEO, added on the acquisition: “This new combination represents a significant extension of our position in stroopwafels, making Biscuit International a true European leader in this strategically important sweet biscuit category.“
Arian De Weert, Patisserie Casteleijn CEO, shared a statement on joining Biscuit International: “We have confidence that this partnership will drive growth and innovation and does full justice to the core business of both parties. We look forward to entering a new phase in our development as an organization and working together with the Biscuit International team to plan for the completion of the deal and to ensure a successful integration.” Biscuit International is a portfolio company of Platinum Equity, which acquired the business in 2020.
Biscuit International is the leading private-label biscuit and bread substitute manufacturer in Europe, with a heritage of over 400 years of expertise in the industry.
Without counting this latest acquisition, Biscuit International operates 32 factories and employs a staff of around 5,000 people.
With an industry heritage of more than 135 years, Patisserie Casteleijn is a manufacturer of stroopwafels and syrup-filled biscuits operating out of a production facility in Bergambacht in the Netherlands. Patisserie Casteleijn has around 125 employees; more than 50% of its sales are in the Netherlands, and it exports its products to over 50 countries.
