Fazer announced the renewal of its chocolate production and an investment of approximately EUR 400 million in the construction of a new chocolate factory in Lahti. This is the largest investment in Fazer’s history. The construction work will begin this summer. The factory, spanning 33,300 square meters, is scheduled to be operational in 2028. Vantaa will continue to house Fazer’s biscuit factory, a large bakery, the head office operations, part of the company’s chocolate production and the Fazer Experience Visitor Center.

The new factory will have automated production lines and new technology that can be used to produce completely new types of products. “Thanks to electrification and comprehensive energy recycling, the factory will be CO2 emissions-free, and the efficient use of raw materials enabled by the new technology will also significantly reduce production waste,” Fazer announces.

“The new factory will support both our domestic as well as international growth and demonstrates our strong belief in the competitiveness of Finnish food production also in the international markets,” says Christoph Vitzthum, President and CEO of Fazer Group.

Fazer employs more than 4,000 people in Finland, with production facilities in Vantaa, Lahti and Lappeenranta.

Lahti is already home to Fazer’s Mill, the crisps factory, a large bakery, a gluten-free bakery, and the xylitol factory. In Lappeenranta, there is a large bakery and a confectionery factory, where Fazer’s candies such as salty liquorice, sweets, marmalades and xylitol products are made.

In addition, Fazer has 139 Shop-in-Shop bakeries, 24 Fazer Cafés and 13 Gateau bakery shops in Finland.
