Both products entered into the competition by The Handmade Cake Company for the Free From Food Awards are among this year’s winners. The bakery is part of the French group Mademoiselle Desserts. “A massive congratulations to our daughter company!” Mademoiselle Desserts commented on the achievements in a post.

Its Gluten Free Carrot Cake Bar won gold and the Gluten Free & Vegan Flapjack is among the bronze winners.

A diverse panel of judges determines the best new and existing product developments. “We celebrate the very best in free from and our eye-catching yellow logo assures that a product has been rigorously taste-tested and has clear, compliant labeling. Food and drinks that win our awards are benchmarks in the category, and small producers and supermarkets compete on a level playing field for one of our coveted awards,” according to the organizers.

With three bakeries in the UK, The Handmade Cake Company was launched in 1983 by Diana Maher, a home baker who started supplying a local coffee shop. Mademoiselle Desserts bought the growing business in 2014.

All of its gluten-free cakes are baked in a dedicated gluten-free bakery, and they are licensed by the Coeliac UK organization.

Sainsbury’s, Warburtons, Nairn’s and Aldi’s are also among this year’s recipients of Free From Food Awards, offering bakery innovations in this product segment.
