Across the UK, Greggs stores are closing, as they experience card payment failures, or are only serving customers via cash payments while the chain works on resolving the IT issue. BBC quotes a statement from Greggs: “We are currently experiencing issues accepting payments in our shops.” It added: “We are working to resolve this as soon as possible.”

The incident follows other recent card payment outages in the UK, where Sainsbury’s and Tesco had software failures on Saturday, the news outlet reports, and a global-wide IT problem at McDonald’s, on March 18. McDonald’s temporarily closed restaurants affected in the US, the UK, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, until the problem was resolved.
