Mühlenchemie established an award for research into composite flour on the occasion of its centennial anniversary, which recognizes solutions in the production and processing of non-wheat flours and their blends with wheat flour.
The new “Composite Flour Science Award” comes with a total cash prize of EUR 10,000. The first-place winner will receive EUR 5,000, and EUR 3,000 and EUR 2,000 respectively will go to those ranking second and third.
Specializing in flour treatment, Mühlenchemie has been developing its own ways to partially or completely replace wheat flour with non-wheat flours for years. However, in other areas of wheat substitution there is a lack of background knowledge, the company observes, particularly around the cultivation and processing of various wheat alternatives.
The award will acknowledge completed scientific studies and practice-focused projects from 2019 to 2022. Institutes and research companies can submit single-page summaries of their studies by January 31, 2023. An international expert jury will review these, select a shortlist, and then request detailed descriptions for these nominees.
The award ceremony will be held in June 2023.
