The Mondelēz Europe factory in Szekesfehervar, Hungary, is now powered by solar energy. The installation of a solar panel park is expected to replace up to 25% of the site’s energy needs with renewable electricity and reduce CO₂ emissions. It represents an investment of USD 2.3 million, HUNGARY today reports, in over 4,000 solar panels.

The system will generate 3,000 MWh of renewable energy per year, reducing the factory’s carbon dioxide emissions by 600 tons annually, the American Chamber of Commerce in Hungary details.

“Our factory in Szekesfehervar, Hungary – proud manufacturers of delicious snacks including LU biscuits, OREO Crumbs, and local heritage brand Győri Édes – is now the largest solar power plant in Mondelēz Europe!” the snack company wrote in a message.

The Hungarian news outlet shares details from Dominik Boguslawski, factory manager at the Székesfehérvár site, who said that the 25,000-square-meter solar park is also the company’s largest green project in Hungary.

Global brands such as Milka, Cadbury, and Oreo will be made here using green energy, as well as local brands including Pilóta and Győri Édes.
