Spanish bakery group Europastry acquired the frozen bakery business De Groot Edelgebak from Ede in the Netherlands. The acquisition strengthens Europastry’s presence in the food service market. De Groot Edelgebak was founded in 1986 by Ron de Groot and supplies restaurants, hotels and leisure facilities in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, with more than 70 employees. The portfolio includes bread, rolls, pastries, cakes and snacks.
The company expects a turnover of around EUR 16.5 million in 2024, according to the Dutch media ede.nieuws. The outlet quotes Ron de Groot, the owner of De Groot Edelgebak: “Of the many interested parties, Europastry was the most suitable acquisition partner. On the one hand, because of the opportunities it offers for De Groot Edelgebak, but, above all, because of the DNA of the Europastry family business, which fits well with our organization and our employees.”
Europastry continues its expansion with the latest acquisition, the fourth in the last two years. One of the most significant deals was the majority stake in DeWiBack.
