Holmes Bakery signs supply deal with Lidl

Holmes Bakery secured a GBP 200,000 contract Lidl Northern Ireland, to supply fifteens, caramel fingers and sweet mince slices to over 40 stores in the area. To fulfill the contract, the family bakery will hire three additional people, growing its staff to 23, Business First reports.

The bakery won a supplier contract with Lidl in 2022. The Irish Times quotes Lidl Northern Ireland’s buyer, Zoe Russell: “Local suppliers are the bedrock of our success and we’re excited to be further investing in and championing another home-grown company which continues to prove itself as one of the region’s most ambitious and innovative companies.”

Gillian Castles, Holmes Bakery Account Manager, was also quoted by the local news outlet: “Our newest supply deal represents a significant milestone for our team and is a testament to our own focus on providing quality products and ingredients that consumers want to buy. We are delighted that Lidl Northern Ireland is continuing to invest in Holmes Bakery as it enables us to invest further in building our team and in growing our award-winning range of products.”

Funded in 1937, Holmes Bakery was acquired by Harold and Daphne Irwin in 2009. The business produces premium, handmade products, in ranges including biscuits, goods baked in trays, infusions and seasonal specialties. The bakery sells its products in retail stores in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Great Britain. The bakery’s creations have won several awards. Its Flakemeal biscuits, for example, won gold in the biscuits and sweet snacks category of the Irish Food Awards.
