Adults who
regularly consume more legumes, cereals, bread, and grains have less severe
COVID-19 symptoms, according to a study led by the Centro Universitario de la
Costa, Department of Medical Sciences, Universidad de Guadalajara, Puerto
Vallarta, in Mexico. The research highlights how the severity of COVID-19
symptoms is related to dietary intake. Obesity is a major risk factor for
severe COVID-19 symptoms, and the new study highlights the benefits of healthy
eating.
The study
was conducted on 236 patients suspected to have COVID-19, out of which 103 tested
positive for SARS-CoV2. A questionnaire regarding regularly consumed food was
designed to collect information from the test participants three months prior
to their COVID-19 tests. The study showed that the people who tested positive showed
decreased overall symptom severity if they had an increased regular intake of food
groups including legumes, grains, bread and cereals.
