Reading Bakery Systems (RBS) brings sustainability into the spotlight at interpack, as it returns to Düsseldorf with its latest developments. The company shared with bbi a preview of what visitors to the stand can expect and its views on the industry, including the return of trade shows.

What are you focusing on highlighting at interpack 2023? What new technology (machines, new features, revisions) and solutions can bakery manufacturers learn about at interpack?

To help our customers achieve sustainable and flexible operations, we’ll be featuring our new sustainable and electric baking capabilities, continuous mixing technology, and our low-pressure extruded snack systems.

What are your views on the return of interpack after six years? What changes did the double waiting time in between editions bring for your company (regarding announcements, R&D, new launches, networking, show organizing, overall and long-term planning)?

Our focus has always been on innovation to benefit our customers. During the pandemic, we reframed our energies around people, planet, and prosperity; how can we improve every step of our value chain. The results are impactful for our customers, such as new digital offerings like educational webinars, RBS eZone, a 24/7 self-service parts portal, improved systems automation via RBSConnect for greater efficiency, intelligent and lean design/build protocols for manufacturing, as well as SafeShield program for easier cleaning and sanitation.

And what expectations do you have regarding trade shows in 2023, starting with interpack?

We expect increased activity at trade shows this year, as customers look to manufacturers to solve some of their operational challenges, like energy efficiency, sustainability, labor and material shortages, and new product development. Customers need partners with innovative system solutions, not just equipment suppliers.

What trends do you anticipate for technology in the baking industry?

Today’s trends will become standard operating procedures in the very near future. Look for others to follow our innovations in production, automation, and sustainability, such as electric ovens, labor-saving operating systems, as well as increased flexibility and new products from reimagined existing production systems.
