The biggest organizations in the industry joined their efforts to formulate a shared vision regarding the essential role of bread
The Bread Initiative released a vision paper, titled ‘Keeping Bread on the Table’ ahead of the European Parliament elections, held from June 6 to 9 this year, highlighting key requests that should guide policy-making during the next EP term. The paper was signed by the five European trade associations behind the Bread Initiative: AIBI, CEBP, COFALEC, European Flour Millers and Fedima.
Associations from Slovakia and Poland joined the International Association of Plant Bakers. The Board also approved the membership application from UBA (Ukrainian Bakers Association).
In an announcement co-signed by European Sugar Users (CIUS), AIBI and the European Fermentation Group (cefic), a balanced approach to sugar imports was requested.
AIBI announces that its next biennial Congress will be held in Hamburg, Germany, from May 22 to 24, 2024. The details of the program are now being finalized. It is bound to include topics such as sustainability, energy, the workforce in the industry and the role of IT and digitalization in bakery businesses, AIBI anticipates.
AIBI announced it is hosting a networking end-of-year event for its members and partners on December 12, 2022.
Georg Heberer, Wiener Feinbäckerei, was elected the new AIBI president at the organization’s Congress held in Bled, Slovenia from June 16 to 18. More than 100 representatives from the association’s member countries attended the in-person event.
